EDITORIAL

The year 2024 has barely begun and the Abragames team is already involved in a series of projects. Through the Brazil Games Sector Project, a partnership between Abragames and ApexBrasil (Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency), the associated studios will participate in several international events, starting with Kidscreen, which this year takes place in February, in San Diego, California, USA. Next, in March, it will be the turn of GDC, in San Francisco, California, USA. In June, the agenda includes the debut of gamescom latam, a partnership between gamescom and BIG Festival, and in August, gamescom will be in Cologne, Germany. In September, it will be the turn of XDS, in Vancouver, Canada.

GAMESCOM LATAM

gamescom latam arrives to change the brazilian gamer scene

Gamescom Latam is coming! The event, the result of a partnership between Gamescom and BIG Festival, is scheduled to take place from June 26 to 30 at São Paulo Expo. In this unique collaboration, BIG Festival joins forces with Gamescom to elevate the gaming scene in Brazil, promising a richer and more impactful experience for everyone involved. It will be a unique opportunity to explore the frontiers of innovation, establish valuable connections and delve into the exciting future that awaits Gamescom Latam.

For all independent and innovative game developers, the festival will provide a gateway to shine in the Brazilian gaming scene. Until February 29th, developers will be able to submit their games to participate in the event. It will be a unique opportunity for networking, recognition and visibility in the industry. The registration link is already available on the website.

Additionally, until February 29th, submissions for the Artist’s Alley are now open, providing a unique platform to showcase and celebrate the incredible artistic talent present in the world of gaming. The Artist’s Alley will be a dedicated space to showcase the diversity and creativity of our community, further enriching the event experience.

The event will also allow the public to submit suggestions for lectures for the event, indicating speakers or topics that they consider interesting. To participate, you must fill out the form by March 17th. Access the link on the website.


AGENDA 2024

Abragames is gearing up for a busy 2024

The events calendar is full.

2024 will be an incredible year for our community, with unmissable events that will shape the gaming industry landscape. In addition to the highly anticipated gamescom latam and the renowned BIG Festival in June, we would like to remind you that in February we will already have the Kidscreen Summit.

Kidscreen Summit is an international event that brings together professionals from the children’s entertainment industry. At this event, which will take place in San Diego, participants will have the unique opportunity to explore emerging trends, strategies and opportunities in the world of animation and content aimed at children.

Additionally, we’re excited to announce another exciting addition to our schedule: the Game Developers Conference (GDC) in San Francisco, California, in March. GDC is one of the largest annual gatherings of game industry professionals, attracting developers, designers, artists, and other experts from around the world. Engaging keynotes, hands-on workshops, and networking opportunities make GDC an essential meeting point for anyone interested in becoming a part of the game industry.

GDC DIVERSITY SCHOLARSHIP

GDC Diversity Scholarships 2024 Call Now Open

The notice will include the distribution of 8 all-pass access tickets, valued at more than US$2,000 each.

The ABRAGAMES Diversity Council, in collaboration with the Latin American Federation of Video Game Developers, announced the 2024 Call for Applications for the GDC (Game Developers Conference) Diversity Scholarships.

This initiative aims to allow people who are part of underrepresented groups in the Brazilian gaming industry to participate in GDC 2024, one of the largest events in the sector. GDC is scheduled to take place between March 18 and 22 in the city of San Francisco (CA), in the United States.

The notice will include the distribution of 8 all-pass tickets, valued at more than US$2,000 each, to various people from the games industry who wish to participate in GDC 2024. Students and professionals from the games industry over 18 years old, who have resided in Brazil for at least 2 consecutive years, can apply.

The diversity criteria established in the notice include gender, race and ethnicity, sexual orientation, disability and age; candidates who meet these criteria will be given priority in the evaluation. At the time of registration, it is not necessary to have a valid passport and American visa, but it is important to keep in mind that, if the participant is selected, these documents will be required in order to receive the ticket.

The Diversity Council emphasizes that inclusion and diversity are fundamental pillars for the development and evolution of the gaming industry. Thus, the initiative to grant tickets to GDC 2024 seeks to promote equal opportunities and increase the representation of diverse people in the sector.

Registration is open until January 31, 2024. Those selected, who will be announced soon, will be able to participate in lectures, workshops, exhibitions and other activities at GDC 2024.
